Educate Comprehensive Understanding of Democracy 0

In the name of democracy, every leader in this country is elected directly. From president until bupati has to be elected in the direct voting. Every 'head' has his voice in every power. That is good. That is a way to built strong system which appears from every individual. But, seeing many Pilkada ends with violence and turbulence makes we realize about how weak the understanding of democracy from our societies. Premature perspective and understanding of democracy is the weakness of our democracy. Education institution has to build a comprehensive understanding of democracy.
The nature democracy is power in a nation has to be centered in the people: 'from the people, by the people, and for the people'. The meaning of centered to the people does not mean that everyone can do everything by their own wants. There are still mechanisms, values and norms used in democracy as a way in guiding the individual because democracy is not same with liberalism.
Democracy talks about people and not only about individual. People are collective and like an organization of individual. It means that in democracy we do not only take a deep about willingness of an individual but about collective desire. Desire or wants of every persons needs democracy mechanism in order to be a together desire.
The direct election is a mechanism in making individual wants can be creates as collective wants. A candidate is a choice in the democracy. There are some choices from every citizen. The choices extract into more specific choices implemented in general (big) focus of every choice. In the final, the big choices are voted by every citizen. Choice or candidate who gets the biggest number of voice is the winning. That are the normative mechanism but sometime the mechanism cannot run as well as it must be.
Where some people angry when their candidate is not elected, it means that our society cannot understand differences between individual wants and collective wants. In other words, our societies know about democracy mechanism but cannot be aware of value and norms related to the democracy. Comprehending mechanism only is not enough and understanding value and norm is really needed.
Value and norm are systems organize a society. That is why democracy is not same for every country. There are liberal democracy, parliamentary democracy, communist democracy, Pancasila democracy, etc. Indonesia professes Pancasila democracy, so value and norms in Pancasila should relates with the mechanism of democracy. It can be done tragically by educational institution. Educational institution can describe both standard mechanism of democracy and value and norm related to the democracy.
Educational institution such as formal school can introduce democracy in the concept until the practice. Democracy concept of 'people sovereignty' from Jean Jacques Rousseau until concept of Pancasila democracy should be educated using comprehensive system. Actually those have been described by Pendidikan Kewarganageraan but it fails to describe conceptually because it only concern to the normative aspect and forget to emphasize the pure comprehension of those concepts.
Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan also fails to make comprehensive understanding among the mechanism, value, and norm of democracy. Theoretically, the mechanisms of democration such as understanding of election mechanism, trias politica, kinds of governmental mechanism, etc have been mastered by students using examination measurement but it cannot guaranty that the students will be good participants of democracy as long as the educational processes are separated into value and norm mastery. Value and norm mastery can not only educate using theoretically technique. Those need practice. So, Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan has to guaranty that the students can practice value and norm in democracy processes.
Violence and turbulence in Pilkada for example are facts that our societies still has separated concept between mechanism with value and norm in democracy. Educational institution such as formal school should educate comprehensive understanding of democracy in the step building our better democracy system. When our societies understand the mechanism, value, and norm in democracy comprehensively, democracy will run as how it is.
